In wake of the economic meltdown in the market and subsequent lay offs, a growing number of employees have lost confidence in their abilities. Unceremonious exits, pink slips and salary cuts have dealt a serious blow to employees who are finding it difficult to get a suitable job after being laid off. Understandably, this is resulting in lower productivity at declining sales.

The Internet is here to stay much to the disgruntlement of libraries, newspapers and phone book companies. Children learn not only how to reference books, magazines and encyclopedias but also websites in the reports they turn into their teachers. News papers have been hit hard not only by web sites carrying the news for any viewer but also by social networking sites that make everyone a reporter. Phone books are becoming a thing of the past when people can simply google a business name or industry with a city to find a location, a map and a phone number. A website has become imperative. Unfortunately, most businesses do not understand the cost of building a website. It is important to understand what it takes to build even the simplest of websites.

Most people come to me wanting a website. What they don't understand is that in this day and age, a website is not the only thing online that they might need to promote their business. What they really need is an online presence. An online presence includes a website but it also includes accounts in social media sites like Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn and industry forums. Your business needs not to be found by search engines but by people. People use search engines but not necessarily for everything they want. Many people still use good old word of mouth referrals. They want to do business with people they know, like and trust. When they don't know someone that they know, like and trust, they will listen to someone else they know like and trust. The key is to have a vision of how other people will find you, get to know you and learn to like and trust you. A key activity when you decide your company needs an online presence is to define a vision for it. The vision should include a statement of value and a goal that can be measured. A vision provides a focused goal for your online presence.

When you are writing articles, blogs and posts for your business, you are writing up important information that you know through your own experiences or from content you found elsewhere. You need to think about how they will be promoted
on social media sites like Twitter, FaceBook and LinkedIn. Your articles, blogs and posts position you as an expert. As you write them, think about how knowledgeable you sound and whether your content will motivate your prospects to sign up on your newsletter and eventually purchase your products and services.

If you haven’t read or heard about it, the last few weeks have been filled with women updating their FaceBook status with a single word. That single word is a color. It started in December or perhaps earlier. Women were sent the following message:
Some fun is going on…. just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of breast cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before people wonder why all the girls have a color in their status… Haha

The internet is filled with experts on nearly every topic. Some of them make money while others remain unsung heroes. There are some individuals who come online with a real-life celebrity status. Sometimes the real life celebrity carries over to the internet. Becoming an online trusted authority figure takes time and effort but can be very rewarding financially and fulfilling. Many ordinary people become online celebrities based on their interactions in online communities.

There are a lot of internet marketing plans and programs out on the internet. Some of the work but a lot of them don't work very well. as you go around the internet examining the plans and maybe thinking about purchasing one to help promote an online business venture, there is something that needs to be considered. A lot of these programs have outstanding track records when selling the program to others via small webpages with mostly blatant text. There is a good reason they can make the claims they do. It's because they are telling the truth but not giving you the truth. They make money for their producers and some of their followers because they are all selling to people who want to make money. However, the ones who actually make money are the people selling the internet marketing plans. In the end, most of these programs work around selling to other people who then sell the product to other people who want to make money. It's a lot like multi-level marketing without the "multi-level" part.

In a social setting, a user is someone who picks up friends for selfish reasons. Every friend a user aquires has only one purpose; to benefit themselves. The other person's wants and needs are not important. Social Media is a lot like regular social settings. There are users or "spammers" aquire friends for no other purpose than to bombard them with advertising. Your business needs to follow accepted social manners in order to expect high returns from it.
